Front Door Staining in Cherryville, NC

This project came out of Cherryville, NC from a customer that wanted to refinish the front door due to the immense wear and tear it had. The door it self had damage from dog biting and scratching, and there was a door wax repair aready done which needed to be sanded down as well. The first step was to clean the door with an all purpose cleaner to make sure any dirt and grime was off of the door to prevent any problems with adhering once the door was ready for stain. After a thorough and gentle cleaning of the door, it was time to sand down the door, being sure to remove as much of teh old stain as possible without sanding too far into the wood. Working from a course grit, down to a medium/fine grit sandpaper is important because it smooths out the finish of the wood prior to sealing it. If this step is skipped, the wood may have rough patches that are noticeable after staining. After sanding down the door and frame, we were ready to apply the stain. We used CABOT GOLD mahogany. We used this product because it was a good match to the existing color, and because the bottom half of the door gets so much sunlight, we wanted to use something that wouldn't fade too quickly over time. We did two coats to make sure the finish was shiny and consistent throughout the entire door. Sometimes when we do products like this, we notice that the clear caulking around the glass is worn and needs to be replaced, and the customer opted to get that done as well. We removed the old caulking, and replacing it with high quality clear silicone to ensure a water seal between the wood and glass. The project turned out great and we have come out since to do more work.
